Kinkasi – DRC
Context & Project Description
The project took place in Kinkasi, Democratic Republic of Congo, on the site of an oil tanker Industrial. The floors were impacted by crude oil to average concentrations of 15,000 mg / kg.
Grit treatment impacted by the hydrocarbons was performed with Smart Burners Technology, developed by Haemers Technologies. In first phase, a pilot was carried out on site in July/August 2012. It preceded the execution of the full scale which begins in late February 2013 and will involve the treatment of a minimum of 12 000 tonnes of impacted sands.
The pilot was carried out on a sandy mound of 60m3, equipped with heating tubes 5, 5 burners and exchanger tubes 2. The full scale will be realized on the basis of 6 batches of 2,000 tons each. The hot air from the batch being processed will be reused for pre-heating the batch n° 1 in order to optimize the processing time.
After treatment (28 days of heating), the average concentration of the pilot samples showed a value of 3660 mg / kg sc, for a target of 5000 mg.kg ms. The goal has been reached.
