Treurenberg – Belgium
Context & Project Description
The site is located in Brussels, Belgium, in the basement of a CBC Bank’s building, near Sainte-Gudule’s Cathedral. The treatment zone is in multiple maintenance rooms with a total of 46m2. The total volume to be treated was of 138m3 (248 Tons) and was mainly impacted by a hydrocarbon’s leakage.
Because it was a narrow basement, Engineering and Operations staff encountered difficulties while drilling before placing the Smart BurnersTM. (80cm of concrete floor’s thickness, drilling to 3m depth, low ceiling,..), causing a few days of delay to properly drill into the ground.
Conclusion
Treatment is validated through external soil sampling performed for AB Eco-Globe. These were performed on the 27th of April 2018 and the 2nd of May 2018. The figure below shows the temperatures curves during treatment. The treatment goal was 300 mg/kg. Contaminants’ concentration after treatment was of <300mg/kg DM. All remediation objectives were achieved.
