The project for Perenco, the thermal ex-situ treatment of the heavily oil-contaminated soil on their previous production site in Kinkazi, Congo, has now been successfully completed. The approach has been to maximize the recovery of the oil, i.a. by using a condensation system, transferring the off-gas into liquid oil again. Up to 70 % of the oil was recycled. Although we previously named our technology GTR, which stands for Gas Thermal Remediation, our Smart burners now also run on diesel as source of energy. The development was done based on customers’ requests, especially for remediation projects on remote locations where natural gas or propane supply will be difficult or even impossible. The conference was held in Palm Springs from May 22 to May 26. For that occasion, we have published two articles. They cover ex-situ thermal treatment of contaminated soil with chlorinated products.
