NEWS about the Japanese knotweed

The Japanese knotweed is an invasive plant species causing serious problems worldwide. Different control methods exist (including herbicides, excavation, and burial), but they come with risks and limitations.

At Haemers Technologies, we’ve developed an innovative thermal treatment method that targets the knotweed’s rhizomes. Working with KU Leuven, Thermal Clean Shift, and Plantengezondheidsdienst, we heat the soil to 50-60°C for a few days, effectively disabling the rhizomes and preventing regrowth.

Our approach is characterized by a very short treatment duration that is highly effective yet eco-friendly.

We believe that our method will play a key role in the ongoing fight against invasive plant species.

Let’s work together to make our world a better place for everyone.

We also want to thank the municipality of Heerlen for the successful completion of a project using our thermal treatment method.
