This project was carried out at Haemers Technologies’ headquarters by its own team in Brussels, between March 2020 and March 2021. The contamination was due to a historic motor oil leaking into the soil of an old car garage, now used as the main building of Haemers Technologies. 2 batches of 45 burners each, with various fuel used (propane, natural gas, and diesel) and using the Reburn system 250°C at the cold points Soil targets: TPH (C10-C40) < 300 mg/kg of dry soil Groundwater targets:...

Historical pollution in a petrochemical unit. Mainly hydrocarbons, BTEX, aromatic and aliphatic compounds Presence of a free phase ranging from a few centimetres to several tens of centimetres on a fairly extensive surface. Industrial zone near a river with strong level variations. Average depth of aquifer 12 m below ground level. 2.5 m groundwater variability, fast and induced by the level variations of the nearby river. Given the scope of pollution, installation of two pumping units DS 500-6D ATEX, equipped for pumping at a depth greater...

Historical pollution: leakage in tanks of a chemical plant. The product has a high viscosity (honey or semi liquid tar type) and crystallizes in cold weather. On a surface of a few acres, a floating layer of chemicals and hydrocarbons with a free phase thickness of up to 7 m originally. Agricultural zone Limestone (chalk) Average depth of aquifer 22 m below ground level Seasonal variability of aquifer between 2.5 and 3.0 m over the year ODSI’s solution was implemented after encountering many difficulties using other methods...

Crack in the filling conduit of storage tanks. On a surface of a few acres, a diesel free phase of a few centimeters, with a migration of the free phase towards the nearby canal. Along a canal Fill, sand, silt, clay and rocks Average depth of aquifer 4.0 m below ground level Variability of aquifer +/-1 m Emergency response shortly after discovering the incident. Delivery and implementation of a pumping unit DS 500-12 accompanied by a 1m3 outdoor storage IBC. Placement of a floating dam on the canal...

Historical pollution. Leak in a set of diesel storage tanks protected by a concrete holding tank containing all storage tanks. On a surface equivalent to a football field, a free phase of diesel, a few centimeters to tens of centimeters thick, located under and outside the holding tank, on the side of the aquifer discharge. Along a sea access canal, with small level variations in the canal Sand Average depth of aquifer 2.3 m below ground level Seasonal variability of aquifer between 50 and 70...

This project was carried out under licence in collaboration with the company OGD – Ortec from October 2019 and June 2021. The contamination was due to the discharge of HAP and hydrocarbons (C>12). The soil came from various places along the canal (Citadelle Nord, Ouest and Sud, Starlette Nord and Sud). A thermal treatment platform was set up near the polluted soil, which was excavated and gradually brought to this platform. 41 Natural Gas Smart Burners – Reburn treatment (Vapor Treatment...

The contamination was due to the discharge of chlorinated solvents (DCE, TCE, PCE) related to the former dry-cleaning activities in the building. The site was composed of two zones, located in the patio outside the building (25 m²) and located in the basement (17 m²) respectively. The purpose of the treatment was to make a soil and water table treatment with two distinct technologies. The first step was to heat the soil down to the limit of the unsaturated zone to...

The contamination was due to leaks in 5 underground oil tanks inside a basement of an ancient hospital in Copenhagen, Denmark between October 2020 and April 2021. The project is in an urban area, in the middle of the city of Copenhagen with high-level constraints on noise and smells management. 37 Diesel burners – reburn technology. 250°C at the cold points 100ppm (C10-C40) Soil Temperature every meter 4 points from 0 to 3m 2 points from 0 to 5m October 2020 and April 2021 The treatment has been...

The site was located in a residential area in Brussels. The pollution was caused by the leakage of a buried fuel oil tank. The tank was inerted in 2016. The soil reconnaissance study (2016) and the detailed study (2017) revealed oil pollution in the land surrounding the tank. The polluted area was mainly located in the driveway of a private house and partly under the building. It extended over an area of 28m² and down to 7,5 m below ground. 16...
